Bill Sydney Porter (September 11, 1862 – June 5, 1910), known by his pen name O. Henry, was an American writer. O. Henry's short stories are known for their wit, wordplay, warm characterization and clever twist endings.
William Sidney Porter was created on Sept. 2010 11, 1862, in Greensboro, New york. He improved the transliteration of his middle brand to Sydney in 1898. His father and mother were Doctor Algernon Sidney Porter (1825–88), a physician, and Mary Her Virginia Swaim Porter (1833–65). They were hitched on April 20, 1858. When William was 3, his mother died from tuberculosis, and this individual and his father moved into the property of his paternal grandmother.
